- The Collaboration Prize will give $250,000 to non-profit groups that provide similar services but that have collaborated to enhance service and performance. Working with other libraries and institutions on Early Literacy Initiatives may qualify for this award. Check out their website for details.
- First Book is an organization that strives to promote literacy in low-income areas. They have website offering high-quality children's books and educational materials at deeply discounted prices to registered organizations serving children from low-income families.
- The Library Grants Blog has a wealth of information about many different kinds of grant opportunities for libraries and librarians.
- ICMA Public Library Innovation Grants concentrate on the relationship between local government managers and the public libraries that work with them to create programs that address community issues and priorities.
- The Libri Foundation provides new, hardcover book donations to small, rural public libraries.
- The State Library of Ohio offers Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds to support early literacy efforts including Ohio Ready to Read Projects. Search under LSTA Competitive Grant Programs for samples of funded early literacy grants.
- Target stores provide grants to libraries and other non-profit agencies within their service area. Grants are generally in the $1000 to $3000 range, and there is a special category for early childhood reading.
- The W.K. Kellogg Foundation offers grants in the categories of Health, Food Systems and Rural Development, Youth and Education, and Philanthropy and Volunteerism. Details and the application can be found on their website. Kellogg also funds the SPARK project, which is currently active in the Canton area and several other Ohio communities.
