Born Learning - Born Learning is a public engagement campaign that helps parents, grandparents, and caregivers explore ways to turn everyday moments into fun learning opportunities. United Way Summit County has provided access to many of the handouts for the program.

Every Child Ready to Read - This is the national site with all of the available workshop and display materials to go along with the Every Child Ready to Read program.

Get Ready to Read - Get Ready to Read is a program sponsored by the National Center for Learning Disabilities. Similar to Every Child Ready to Read, it offers 3 early literacy skills, an early literacy newsletter, and many downloadable activities to share with parents. One of the great resources here is the Early Literacy Checklist, which can be downloaded in English or Spanish for home, school, or daycare.

Hennepin County Library Early Literacy Storytime Ideas Exchange - Search ELSIE to find books that help children develop the early literacy skills necessary for learning success. Presentation notes show how to emphasize skills in a fun, interactive story sharing experience.

KRA-L Data - The Ohio Department of Education uses the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment-Literacy tool to evaluate children's reading readiness. Here you can find information about the KRA-L as well as 2007 data by school district across Ohio.

Perry Public Library Storytimes - The Perry Public Library storytime themes page has links to their parent handouts, which include early literacy activities to do at home.

Leading to Reading - Reading is Fundamental presents Leading to Reading, a website full of games, nursery rhymes, fingerplays and fun stuff for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and adults.

Libraries ... Learning and Leading - This blog by Hayley McEwing explores practices in (children's) librarianship, learning through story and illustration, and the concept and application of leadership.  She includes embedded and linked Google docs of her early literacy programs and provides other youth services programs and resources.

Multnomah County Library Birth to Six - This site provides information about early literacy development and the importance of reading to young children, activities for babies, toddlers and preschoolers, and educational products to promote early literacy.

The National Institute for Early Education Research - Need some hard facts about early literacy? How about a news article about how local communities are working together to support reading initiatives? NIEER provides descriptions for peer-reviewed articles, newspaper and magazine stories, and useful statistics. Many of the articles listed are provided in full-text for free, though some may require subscriptions to databases in order to gain access.

NIFL- The National Institute for Literacy is a federal agency dedicating to improving reading instruction for children of all ages. In addition to publications you can download or order for free, they also offer fact sheets and research materials, grant information, and information about programs the NIFL supports.

Ohio Ready to Read - Our state's site with links and resources for Every Child Ready to Read.

Reading Rockets - The Reading Rockets website was built to go along with the PBS programs of the same name. Here you will find articles about reading, blogs to follow, research, and reading guides. They also have webcasts and other training opportunities available through the site.

Resources for Early Childhood - This online resource for early childhood educators features peer-reviewed lessons and research in the categories of Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies that align with the Ohio Early Learning Standards. The site also includes featured articles about professional development tools, best practices at centers across the state, and fun new activities.

Saroj Ghoting's Website - Saroj Ghoting, who has done many of the Every Child Ready to Read workshops across the country, provides a wealth of information about early literacy in libraries. Check out her Handouts and Activities page, her Storytime Share blog, and all of the ways you can integrate the early literacy skills into your library environment

Washington Learning Systems - Washington Learning Systems offers a program called “Language is the Key,” a training program complete with videos and handouts that talks about promoting language use through books and play. In addition, the website provides wonderful free parent education handouts in English and Spanish.

Zero to Three - ZERO TO THREE is a national nonprofit organization that informs, trains and supports professionals, policymakers and parents in their efforts to improve the lives of infants and toddlers. You'll find lots of hand-out worthy pdf's available for free downloads.

Focus on Early Literacy - This is a blog from the Dayton Public Library with suggestions of picture books to read to preschoolers and strategies for using the books. It is aimed at different times at caregivers, parents and professional early care and education providers. There are often links to other sites with ideas for extension activities, research articles & information about early learning standards.
